Art Samui, the first Asian hub of Perspicism

— 01

A research question that needed Asia

Perspicism began in Europe as a question: how do art, light, materials and the way a place is crossed shape what people feel there? It became a network: a research and development lab in Switzerland, a practice in France, and now Art Samui, its first hub in Asia.

Asia was not an extension. It was a necessity. Perception changes with the light of the tropics, the rhythm of the rains, the way houses open to the outside, and the cultures that inhabit them. A method built in Europe has to be tested here, or it remains half true.

So Art Samui is not a branch that executes. It is the Asian field of the research. What we learn in the villas, hotels and spas of Koh Samui returns to the lab; what the lab learns returns to the places we work with.

One network, several places

Each hub works in its own region, with its own artists and partners. All of them share the same method, the same vocabulary and the same lab.

What the lab is for

The lab studies the relationship between perception, art and the places people live in. It draws on environmental psychology, the science of perception and biophilic design, and on what the hubs observe in the field.

The research informs our judgment. It never replaces it.
